An Important Message from Team Loonacy
Dear HRC Friends:
Many of you are aware of the Run Around Hopkinton Relay, scheduled for May 24th. What many of you may not know is the story behind this event, and in turn why your help and participation is so important. Last year, several members of the HRC formed a group called Team Loonacy in honor and memory of our club member and friend Andy Welzel, whose battle with cancer ended in April 2006. During the final months of his life, Andy committed much of his energy to raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, playing a major role in organizing the Pan Can "Walk in the Woods" in Hopkinton State Park. Team Loonacy was formed to continue this legacy by raising funds for Dana Farber cancer research through the Pan Mass Challenge. In its inaugural 2007 campaign, Team Loonacy raised over $20,000 for this important cause. The Run Around Hopkinton Relay is a central element in Team Loonacy's 2008 fundraising effort. Thanks to the generous support of the Hopkinton Athletic Association and our other organizational sponsors, all funds raised through registration fees and supplemental donations will go directly to support Dana Farber's cutting-edge cancer research. If you have not already signed up for the Relay, please consider doing so today. In the event that you are away that weekend or otherwise can't run in the event, you can help in several ways:
Team Loonacy's
efforts on behalf of cancer research depend in a large part on the
support of the HRC Family.
Please help
in any way you can - whether as a Relay participant, as a volunteer,
or as a donor (or any combination of the above), your participation
goes a long way.
Thanks for your support,
TEAM LOONACY
